Born and bred in Kent, Rupert trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art after a false start as a graphic designer.
There followed many seasons in repertory playing such roles as Fowler in Another Country, Algernon in The Importance of Being Earnest, and the German airman in See How They Run. Subsequent credits have included: Henry in The Sloane Ranger Revue (Duchess Theatre, West End); Frank Crawley in Rebecca (UK National Tour); Robert in Stagestruck, Hermann Goering in Unpainted Pictures; Marston Dawlish QC in John Mortimer’s new play Naked Justice; Victor in Private Lives (English Theatre, Frankfurt); Count Skriezevinsky in Flare Path by Middle Ground with Colin Baker and more recently as Gunby T Gunby in Ned Sherrin’s revival of Our Song with Peter Bowles.
Television credits include: Honest, Decent and True (BBC Screen 2); The Case of the Frightened Lady and Chief Constable Ames in Back Up - series 2 (BBC); the parachute officer in Lipstick on Your Collar; Tom Hoke in Turn-ups, Collar and Ties; Gunar Goldhair in The Vikings; Nick Laurence in Tumbledown; Malcolm in London’s Burning (five series); Mission Controller in What goes Up - Bugs 2; the Barrister in Taking the Rubbish - The Bill (Thames); Lt Bertie in Longitude (Granada); Ray in Animal Instinct (A Dogma Film) and Vampire Video Diaries directed by Mark James.
Film credits include: the role of the eccentric Joseph Breitkopf in Mrs Dalloway. Rupert was also involved with The Play’s the Thing for Channel 4 working with Robert Delamere and Dawn Walton.
