1996 saw the hugely successful tour of Priestley’s classic thriller.
The first world war is over but the lives of all the characters who are about to visit the little Inn on the windswept Yorkshire Moors have been drastically effected.
None more so than disturbing Dr Gortler, played by Nicholas Smith (Mr Rumbold from ‘Are You Being Served?’). This strange traveller has been drawn to The Black Bull, run by Frederick Pyne (Matt Skilbeck from ‘Emmerdale’), in search of proof for his theories on the dimensions of time. To his horror, Dr Gortler sees his dream of a tragedy at the Inn, happening in all reality.
A mystery thriller on a parallel with ‘An Inspector Calls’, the production was directed by the ever-impressive David Kelsey.
“A super cast! J.B.Priestly would certainly have been delighted with the way Middle Ground are tackling his intriguing time and mind bender” - The Guardian
