To celebrate the millenium and also the one hundred year anniversary of the death of Oscar Wilde, Middle Ground embarked on a tour of An Ideal Husband.
Set in 1895, the plot revolves around the under-secretary for Foreign Affairs, Sir Robert Chiltern (London’s Burning’s Richard Walsh) who once sold a cabinet secret to the representative of a foreign power. A certain Mrs Cheveley, who is anxious for Chiltern to promote a commercial scene of dubious quality, threatens to expose him publicly unless he helps to get the scheme through the House of Commons.
The production also starred Dermot Walsh (veteran of 40 ‘Rank’’ Films), Jean Rogers (Dolly Skilbeck from Emmerdale), Lousie English (Lucia in Brushstrokes) and heartthrob Marcus Gilbert (Jilly Cooper’s Riders).
